Hot air Balloon drama Gold coast Australia Boxing day 2008

Elgas out of gas again almost?

In an almost unfortunate Christmas tragedy this morning a number of hot air balloons nearly landed in our street and suburb on the Gold coast in Australia. They included elgas landing in the street and tallpoppies.net.au in our back yard almost.

WOW these hot air balloons really freaked us out we were uploading videos and sorting out our profiles on our various accounts when we heard a rumbling and saw a big shadow cover our office. I looked out the window and all I could see was a huge elgas hot air balloon. We thought they left the suburb after they approached Parkwood from the Labrador area. as you will see they in the video and other pictures we have around the place find the links hereon they were in many cases inches away from trees and houses.

As you will see our photo pages this is not an uncommon site to see on the gold coast in Australia. Many a time we have been woken up in the past by this immense roar and we often think we are being invaded by aliens or something else strange like that. This latest elgas balloon incident had many of the neighbours running out of their houses, not long after dawn on Boxing day 26 12 2008 around 5.50 am only to find the hot air balloon mere metres above the ground. The hot air elgas hot air balloon captain was in control this time unlike the time the Hot tomato balloon landed on the street round the corner from us last year.

Sorry guys had help stuffing this vid up should have been tallpoppies.net.au

Please note this was not re hearsed as you can tell.

The Pineapple took about 4 months to grow and ripen properly. it must have been plotting revenge all the while.

Sunbeam Coffee dramas as Saeco off the hook maybe

Coffee machines true stories behind the hype.

We know everyone has experienced it at some time or another the fact that usually the warranty runs out then you get problems. Well not so with our latest coffee machine purchase the Sunbeam Coffee machine cafe series EM6910.

Back on July 22nd we replaced our Saeco which was apparently stolen from the repair shop, with what we believed to be a sturdy a new Sunbeam Coffee machine cafe series EM6910.

Now not even only 2 months later coffee is spraying everywhere. The machine started making funny noises so I looked down to see what was happening and got shot in the face with scalding hot water and steam.  Today we cleaned the shower screen of the Sunbeam cafe series EM6910 & when we pulled the seal out noticed it was split. Sunbeam claim the seal should last at least 12 months. However we have had a Krupps coffee machine which it’s shower screen only now needs replacing due to going hard after 13.5 years use. Apart from this minor set back with the Sunbeam we love our Sunbeam cafe series EM6910 when it works.

Whether this seal issue is a fault or a money making tactic Sunbeam really needs to think about the potential damages costs associated with injuring, blinding people or even still killing them by electrocution.

For some strange reason Sunbeam requests you call them about changing this seal and to make matters worse unlike a normal business Sunbeam are not even there until 9.30 am. We will try to keep you updated on the outcome of this drama. We just tried calling Sunbeam again at 9.50 am and wasted $5 on a mobile call to try sorting out the problem only to not get answered.

On a brighter note: The Sunbeam grinder we bought which is in the photo’s so far has worked brilliantly AND. Thankfully we finally got our Saeco Royal professional coffee machine back earlier in the month. It turned out it was put away safely for storage and not lost or stolen. We are grateful to Allan at the Regal coffee company Southport for finding our beloved machine. Allan even somehow managed to fix the Saeco manufacturing fault of the side door being warped since we bought it. We love Saeco when it works.

A bit of background on our coffee indulgence.
Since 1985 23 years ago I have been collecting machines and enjoying coffee. So far to date we have counted and found we have 13 of the 15 coffee making machines collected that we bought. Everyday we enjoy at least 2 to 4 coffees. We usually drink Latte’s but sometimes enjoy Greek or Turkish coffee a plunger, percolated or espresso.

If you have any experiences like the above we can be contacted through our email or preferably leave a comment.

Big business Death of the YELLOW PAGES Means

Today 12 August 2008, I got an interesting email a subject of one that is close to my heart and that is the environment. Had the subject read something like the following I would not have even bothered looking.
"Easy Offline Riches", the maverick product which "sold out".
The email was from an aquaintence Todd Gross started out like.

Let me be clear. Not only are people now searching for local businesses through google and not Yellow Pages, but the Yellow Page delivery is being banned in some cities for environmental reasons (such as Albany, NY)
Why do you care?
Because by the millions, local restaurants, contractors, shops of all kinds are suddenly desperate to get a website done.

It however was not the actual subject but the subject line that was well crafted to catch readers attention. The subject line read "Death of the YELLOW PAGES Means Income for YOU!"

It is rather funny that recently we were discussing the environmental raping these types of companies such as the Yellow pages are doing and what could be done about it to fix the problem. We came up with some common sense useful ideas then decided not to advise the Yellow pages as they are to sensible especially for a company named Sensis.

In Australia the Yellow pages is run by our local phone company Telstra, most people who have had dealing with either business have some sort of complaint or another especially with the Yellow pages. This is possibly due to the size of the company though with around 95% of the dealings we have had with them they have just been plain ignorant. Due to this fact and the many problems with the Yellow pages, Telstra is trying to distance itself.

The reason we are so passionate about the Yellow pages is that have cost many people a lot of money in some cases such as ours cost us our lively hood. Each time we have advertised with the Yellow Pages except for once or twice they have gotten the ads wrong. The last straw was the last mistake Yellow Pages made costing us the loss of a business, a friendship and a 10 year contract and over half a million dollars.

We think it is time for the big businesses of the world to wake up and smell the roses. The fact that the more people you rip off the less people will use your product or service. This is highly evident when in Australia recently Penny Miller who used to be Betterware who is a division of Magnamail a trusted company was apparently shut down. Sources say the treatment Penny Miller gave their staff but mainly the contractors and deliverers was archaic, appalling and should be outlawed.

One example of abuse from Penny Miller was as quoted. In the beginning of June 2008 the Queensland state manager of Penny Miller, Donna Barridge was requested to go to the Gold coast to help sort out some problems the team was having with the Penny Miller system. And all that happened was that Donna Barridge just abused everyone. After the abuse from Donna Barridge happened secret discussion were held by the Gold coast team later that day and week in which it was decided to do a walk out on the Gold coast.

Sources say Donna Barridge is mind you a big person and probably thinking she was in a big enough position to get away with the abuse. Penny Miller claims you are on a contract but in reality you appear to be employed this type of verbal & emotional abuse that Donna Barridge did should not be happening to business nor employees. Now that the world knows about Donna Barridge and Penny Miller a division of Magnamail we may see some justice.

NOW TELL ME MY FRIENDS WOULD YOU FEEL PASSIONATE ABOUT LOSING A HALF A MILLION DOLLARS…OR MORE.

Current gold coast mayor Ron Clarke’s false start

Jumping the gun Current gold coast mayor Ron Clarke seems to think he has won the upcoming election and been re elected. He stated to the Gold coast sun this week that he wants the the Gold coast city council to send a survey in the July rates notices with relation to bring in daylight savings.

Discriminating against many of the people on the Gold coast the survey seems biased, as only the owners will be questioned and not the people who really count. This survey also seems a bit of a waste as quite a lot of the owners are actually non residents of the area.

We note on the channel 9 news tonight Current gold coast mayor Ron Clarke is threatening to take legal action against people should he not win the election. So does this mean our Current gold coast mayor Ron Clarke has turned into a bad sport or is he just seeking the publicity. The secret that was leaked about the casino by one of the candidates should not have been a secret.

Maybe the people of the Gold coast should form a class action against the council for failure to supply what the council has been paid for namely the residents being able to use the water the residents are being charged for, use of the parks the residents are being charged for, mowing the residents are being charged for, use of streets the residents are being charged for that the council keeps closing and this list goes on. Now if the council was an average business taking money for services or goods and not providing them that would be FRAUD.

More to come soon so stay tuned.
